Launched in November of 1921, the USS West Virginia was a Colorado-class battleship nicknamed the "Wee Vee." Stationed at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack, she was struck and sunk; however, on May 17, 1942, she was salvaged from the seabed by draining water from her hull. The USS West Virginia then served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during the final two years of World War II. She was decommissioned in 1947 and sold for scrap in 1959.
