Beginning in 1940, Harley Davidson started manufacturing a military variant of their already popular WL series motorcycle. Once the United States entered World War II, however, production increased and a total of 90,000 units were built during combat. Though manufacturing ceased in 1945, it began again in 1949 with the impending American involvement in the Korean War.
