Stan Stokes. Along with her sister ship (Tirpitz), the Bismarck was the largest German battleship of her era. During her brief eight-month career, she launched but one offensive operation, in May of 1941. On the 26th, she was spotted by a British recon plane and, wanting to attack before she reached the safety of Luftwaffe protection near the French coast, two torpedo bomber units from the HMS Ark Royal were deployed. This limited edition print depicts two Fairy Swordfish biplanes delivering some of the final blows that would eventually lead to the massive vessel's scuttling the next morning. Signed by the artist and Berkard von Mullenheim-Rechberg, the highest hanking surviving officer of the Bismarck. 16"x 11½".
