The most-produced supersonic jet aircraft in the history of the world, the Soviet MiG-21, which has seen more than 11,000 built since its 1959 introduction, remains in service around the world. It served masterfully in the ground interception role during the Vietnam War, beginning in April of 1966; in fact, 13 of North Vietnam's aviators achieved ace status while piloting the MiG-21. It has seen countless variants and, despite being retired in Russia, is still active in 19 international fleets.
