Nicknamed the "Hoover" for its low-pitched noise, the S-3 Viking was a multi-purpose aircraft first introduced with the U.S. Navy in 1974. Its original purpose was in the anti-submarine role, though it eventually evolved into a surface warfare and aerial refueling aircraft. Though some Vikings remain in limited service, it was officially retired from carrier-based duty in January of 2009.
Made by Hobby Master, this 1/72 scale, die cast model — a replica of an S-3B nicknamed "Santa Tracker" serving with the VS-35 "Blue Wolves" stationed on the USS Abraham Lincoln — features the aircraft's signature colorful artwork (including Santa on the front radome, presents running along the side, and a blue wolf on the tail), engraved panel lines, a removable canopy, a well-equipped cockpit, removable crew figures, detailed turbofan engines, full weapons complement, optional-position landing gear, and a stylish presentation stand. Measures approximately 9" long with an 11½" wingspan.
